Today in History: Tivoli Gardens opened in 1843
172 years ago today, Copenhagen’s world famous amusement park Tivoli opened its doors to the public for the first time. The Tivoli is the second oldest park of its kind in the world and currently has more than 4 million visitors per year. It is said that Tivoli was a strong inspiration for Walt Disney’s ideas for a theme park when he visited Copenhagen in 1951. Disneyland opened only 4 years after the trip.
