Today in History: Stanley “Stan” Getz born in 1927 in Philadelphia

Happy Birthday, Stan Getz. The American jazz saxophonist would have been 90 years old if he were still alive today. Getz played primarily the tenor saxophone and gained prominence in the late 1940s with Woody Herman’s big band. He is perhaps best known for the worldwide hit single “The Girl from Ipanema” (1964) performed with Astrud Gilberto.
