Today is National Beer Day

National Beer Day is observed annually on April 7th.  The world’s oldest beverage might date back as far as 9500 BC when cereal was first farmed, so recorded in the written history of ancient Iraq and Egypt. Beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage worldwide and is surpassed in consumption only by water and tea. In March of 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt signed into law the Cullen-Harrison Act which legailzed the sale of beer after 13 years of Prohibition in the United Staes. The law came into effect on April 7 which henceforth became known as National Beer Day.

The poster will be offered in our April 29 auction. For inquiries, email posterconnection@gmail.com.

Today is National Beer Day

National American Beer Day is observed annually (or sometimes more often) by beer drinkers across the nation. Celebrate and enjoy your favorite beer! And remember: always drink responsibly and never drink and drive!

Some fun facts: There are more than 2000 breweries in the United States. The U.S. consumes roughly 75.8 liters (ca. 20 gallons) of beer per capita annually. That places the USA in 17th place worldwide (2014 data). The biggest beer-drinking nation is … the Czech Republic with 142 liters (37.6 gallons) per capita! The most common style of beer produced by the big American breweries is lager.

Today in History: The first Oktoberfest in 1810

205 years ago today, the very first Oktoberfest took place. The festivities lasted five days and were organized around the wedding of the Bavarian Crown Prince. It was the first non-religious folk festival in Germany and had all of Munich on its feet – certainly something that has not changed in the last two centuries.
